The Importance of Language

Language is important, and as a doctor, that importance takes on a whole new meaning. That is why we have created a fantastic educational support system for our doctors, with the purpose of helping you advance as quickly as possible on your language journey and become a proficient user of Danish.

We consider learning Danish to be a mandatory part of the job, and as such, a requirement to participate in our language program is written into your contract.

To help you get there, we have amassed an all-star team of language consultants that will be by your side every step of the way, providing one-on-one language courses, alongside traditional language school.

Learning the language can be a long journey. While you may have a functional Danish after a year if you really apply yourself, mastering the language might take closer to 2-4 years of intense usage. We therefore recommend that you use every opportunity to apply the language when you arrive, even at home - especially if you have children, who in many cases, will learn even faster than you will.

How does it work?

When a formal agreement is in place, usually through a letter of intent, one of our language consultants will contact you and start you on your language journey.

We usually start several months in advance of you arriving in Denmark with a one-on-one courses once or twice a week, depending on availability. This will be a more introductory course that will help gauge your ability to learn and give you a fundamental understanding of how the lessons will go in the future.

In Region Zealand, our language consultants are amongst the very best in their field; they will try and construct a lesson plan that allows you to reach a level of functional proficiency as fast as possible. This does not mean giving you shortcuts however, but it means teaching by using real world scenarios and your own experiences.

Once you arrive in Denmark, the online one-on-one lessons will continue, but you will also be attached to a language school program. This is required for you to be able to take the necessary exams to meet the requirements set forth by the region.

I spent 10 years becoming a doctor, now I have to do more homework?

Unfortunately, yes. Learning a new language is never easy, and we expect a level of commitment from our candidates towards language. You will need to apply yourself to the process, but the reward will be better integration and functionality in your work. Luckily, doctors tend to be fast learners, and your experience studying will help you greatly in speeding up the learning process.
